Research suggests joint pain supplement could make you beautiful

New light is being shed on a compilation of research suggesting that a supplement traditionally used for joint pain and inflammation could aid in reducing the visible signs of ageing if taken orally in daily doses.

The research, accumulated over a ten year time span, looks into the benefits of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) which contains sulfur; a component with strong links to dermatology.

MSM is an organic source of bioavailable sulfur crucial to body function and structure found naturally in the body and in all living organisms, but is often overlooked.

Nutricosmetic opportunity

The new claims suggest that daily oral supplementation with MSM may aid in minimising the visible effects of ageing on the skin.

The research touts sulfur with supporting the structural integrity of the skin by reducing the effects of the stress induced by ultra violet rays.

"The most visible effect of ageing occurs when there is a decline in healthy collagen which gives the skin its strength. This creates a hardening in the skin, otherwise known as wrinkles," said Tim Hammond, director of Sales and Strategic Relations at Bergstrom Nutrition; one of the only companies utilising this finding in its products.

"Sulfur helps preserve the pliancy of our skin by maintaining healthy collagen levels. With MSM being 34 per cent sulfur by weight, it only makes sense that supplementing with MSM strengthens the skin."

Anti-ageing benefits

Bergstrom Nutrition, the makers of OptiMSM, issues an interpretation about the benefits of MSM in the anti-ageing process, as its product is the world's only GRAS-designated proprietary and patented MSM; which ensures its product safety.

"Many people already taking MSM for joint pain and inflammation may not realize they are gaining anti-ageing benefits," said Hammond.

"And for those who are currently taking a supplement for joint health that does not include MSM, a simple switch to a product utilizing OptiMSM could provide multiple benefits," he claims.
