The China-based ingredient provider is once again tapping into age old Chinese remedies with the launch of its new liquorice extract, which contains several key active compounds.

The extract is said to provide outstanding anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties thanks mainly to the active compound glycyrrhetinic acid.

Said to be similar in properties to cortisone, it has a purifying effect on the skin, and is an ideal ingredient to help counteract allergic reactions brought about by a host of ingredients commonly used in cosmetic products.

The liquorice extract also contains dipotassium glycyrrhizinate – which has emulsifying properties and stearyl glacyrrhetinate – which is known for its fat solubility.

Fenchem says that the combination of these compounds in the liquorice formulation makes it ideal for a range of skin care products, including creams, facial masks and facial cleansers to help control symptoms induced by microbial activity.
