Bayer unveils in vivo data of latest skin care extracts

Related tags In vivo Skin

Global enterprise Bayer has unveiled two new studies of two of its ingredients created by its Bayer HealthCare Division Serdex group that show good skin soothing and protection properties.

Sensitive skin or reactive skin can be considered as a condition that exhibits a reduced tolerance to environmental stresses.

Despite a healthy condition, people experience some skin discomfort sensation up to itch corresponding to neuro-sensitivity as well as redness linked to inflammation process. These phenomena are emphasized by skin dryness.

Plant extracts

Bayer developed its Embelia extract with soothing properties and Centella Asiatica Leaf extract with skin barrier function enhancement, and announces the in vivo studies of both to reinforce its claims.

The in vivo study on the soothing effect in the mid- to long term of Embelia Extract versus reactive skin shows that it effectively inhibits induced histamine release on mast cells and basophils while it inhibits substance P and CGRP release in sensory neurons after capsaicin stimulation.

The extract is also shown to inhibit Prostagladin E2 release and Leucotrien B4 release in induced polymorphonuclear neutrophils model.

In a new in vivo study it significantly decreases the sensation intensity score at D7 and D28 proving a soothing effect in the mid- to long-term against discomfort sensation caused by capsaicin.

Centella

The glycosides Centella Asiatica Leaf extract is shown to have a smoothing effect and anti-wrinkle shown on the bridle, whilst also a significant reduction in PIE on volunteers with dry facial skin.

The results show that the ingredient strengthens the barrier function by stimulating tight junctions and the synthesis of ceramide 2 (CER [NS]).

New in vivo data shows the stimulation of the synthesis of involucrin, loricrin and Filaggrine, activation Aquaporin-3 for fluid balance, anti-inflammatory effects, and a stimulation of collagen I synthesis and protection against MMPs.
