Indian personal care maker hunts for major acquisition opportunities

Godrej Consumer Products is on the acquisition hunt with a war chest of up to $1bn to invest with.

The Indian soap and hair color maker wants to expand its business in other emerging markets such as China, Brazil and Nigeria,

Company Chairman Adi Godrej told Dow Jones Newswires that the company is interested in acquisitions that fall into the $15m to $1bn bracket.

Godrej said the targets would by any good brands or businesses in personal care and household care operating in genuinely emerging markets.

Over the past few years, Godrej Consumer Products has made several acquisitions in the personal care sphere including UK-based Keyline Brands in 2005 and two South African hair care firms Rapidol in 2005 and Kinky last year.
