Symrise gains ‘Green Company’ seal

Symrise has been certified as a ‘Green Company’ for a second time by DQS CFS, the German Association for Sustainability, in recognition of its commitment to sustainable processes.

The major flavours, fragrance and cosmetic ingredients company has gained the title for its work in reducing the negative impact of its work on the environment, and will now be entitled to use the ‘Green Company’label for the next three years.

DQS recognises companies that actively reduce the effects of their economic activities on the environment, and reports that following a thorough assessment, Symrise comfortably satisfied the international requirements of the ‘Global Conformance Program’.

‘Environmentally conscious operations

The DQS audit focuses on the companies’ management systems. At Symrise, this involved the research and development unit as well as production and distribution of all of the company’s ingredients.

Production, sales, research and development were all shown to demonstrate environmentally conscious operations, and results had improved since the flavour firm’s first green certification in 2013.

A strategy for sustainability

Symrise has made sustainability a focus of its business strategy in recent years, after setting itself high environmental standards. The renewed ‘Green Company’seal indicates that the strategy is paying off.

“We are delighted that the independent auditors at DQS have once again recognised this commitment [to sustainability]”, said Hans Holger Gliewe, Chief Strategy Officer at Symrise, following the renewed certification.

The leading flavour and fragrances provider has made environmental protection a priority, in addition to resource conservation along the entire value chain. Cost reduction and increasing efficiency are closely linked to environmental management at Symrise, noted Gliewe.

“The acknowledgment of our improved environmental performance since the last audit is additional encouragement to continue on the path we have taken, he added.

Green recognition

This is not the company’s first environmental plaudit in 2017. Earlier this year, the Germany-based flavours firm achieved a third gold award in sustainability from EcoVadis for its work in improving ecological, social and sustainability matters in relation to its business operations.

Last year, it was also awarded an ‘A’rating by the Carbon Disclosure Project for the German-speaking region.
