Global cosmetics firm Shiseido has announced it will start doing business in the Republic of Tunisia in February, with plans to begin selling its global brand there through upmarket cosmetics stores.

Despite already having African bases in Morocco and South Africa, it is the first time a Japanese brand has had a presence in Tunisia.

Shiseido will start selling its makeup items at ten boutiques in the capital, Tunis, in the first year, with aims to double the number of stores that will carry Shiseido products in the country by 2014.

The skin care brand expects sales will be strong, as local firms have gradually built up distribution channels in Tunisia over the last few years to cater to the expanding cosmetics market.
