The European Federation of Essential Oils is set to hold its 10th annual general meeting which will bring EU professionals together to review on-going legislation and developments in the segment.

Founded in 2002, the Federation has been extremely active in defending essential oils on the regulatory side as well as preserving and promoting their safe use in fragrances.

We aim to represent, protect and promote the interest of production and trade of essential oils and related products within Europe, and to lobby for the defence of these products at relevant national, European and international institutions.”

Programme is set to include…

The two day event will be held at the 'Palais des Congres of Grasse' in Cannes on the 2nd and 3rd of June and will feature presentations from industry professionals such as IFEAT President, Mike Boudjouk, who will officially open the speaker programme.

Next up will be Cristina Arregui, director of Global Chemical Management and Pierre Sivac, IFRA President who are set to give an insight into SCCS opinion, where the industry is now, and what the next steps will be.

Those speakers will be followed by a presentation on the environmental effects of essential oils by EuroTox registered toxicologist, Froukje Balk while Eric Angelini, VP Global Regulatory Affairs & Product Safety Mane will address issues and possible solutions during the registration period of these substances.

Finally, Elena Solovyov, vice president of Communications International Fragrance Association, North America will discuss regulatory, legislative and public relation landscape in the US fragrance industry.

Supporting regulatory bodies

The Federation has taken the role as a facilitator to assist and guide the membership with the implementation of REACH in that it is giving juridical, technical and scientific advice to its members.

Involved in regular lobbying and discussions with EU Commission and EU Parliament, E.F.E.O has contributed to several legislative procedures, such as the 7th Amendment to the Cosmetic Directive 76/768/EEC in 2003, and the REACH Regulation No 1907/2006/EC.

This regulation is of vital importance for their members as EU based producers and importers of essential oils, although derived from nature must comply with the registration rules, if their products are delivered for downstream applications in fragrances and/or direct use in cosmetics.

In 2008, C.F.E.O developed a 'REACH Road Map' with a schedule for consortium formation of registrants of NCSs, a program that is now fully operational and in addition maintains regular contacts on REACH matters with other associations like IFRA, Cosmetics Europe, AISE and IFEAT.
