A sales increase of 1.1 per cent was recorded for the quarter; however, the UK-based chemicals company benefited significantly from the weak pound and 10 per cent of the sales increase was put down to currency effects.

Volume sales dropped 3.4 per cent and price and product mix by 5.5 per cent.

However, operating profit from continuing operations for the quarter ending September 30 2009 was up 23.5 per cent on last year; although year to date figures were down slightly.

Consumer care was the winning player out of the company’s two segments reporting a 10 per cent increase in sales, while industrial specialties sales were down.

Despite the 6 per cent drop in sales Croda was positive about the sector saying that the severe destocking seen in the industrial customer base seems to have come to an end.
