Coty’s previous CSO retired from the company earlier this summer having, as his final project, stayed on to help the Coty team integrate the P&G beauty brands. Friday, the new chief scientist starts to work.

When he retired in June, Ralph Macchio had worked with Coty for 25 years. And his time as a cosmetic chemist extends beyond that; Macchio worked with Revlon for over a decade before having joined the Coty team.

In June Camillo Pane, CEO at Coty, recognized Macchio’s contribution to the company, saying “My many thanks, and those of our Board and Executive Committee members, and all his colleagues at Coty go to Ralph for his leadership, commitment, drive and passion for our business, and for the expertise he has brought,” as Cosmetics Design reported. He added, “We wish him a great retirement.”

On September 15 Daniel Ramos takes on the chief scientific officer role at Coty. Ramos (like Macchio) has worked with Revlon. He was most previously Revlon’s chief science officer, from July 2015 through January 2017, according to his profile on LinkedIn.  January 2017 was when Revlon completely restructured, following months of adjustments to synthesize its business with then newly acquired Elizabeth Arden.

The SCO reports to the CEO. And Pane has this to say about the company’s new hire: “I am delighted to welcome Daniel to Coty. Daniel brings over 20 years of successful international consumer goods R&D experience.  He has a strong track record in driving growth through consumer-led innovations and in building organizational capacity and capability.”

Pane goes on to highlight why Ramos is fit for the growing global beauty company at this time, saying, “Daniel has experience in both emerging and developed markets, having worked and lived in Europe, North America, Asia and Latin-America. He is entrepreneurial and has an attitude and outlook that are well aligned to Coty’s new ambition and culture.”
