Ingredients provider Barentz has entered into a strategic partnership with NK Chemicals as it looks to strengthen its personal care operations in Europe as well as in the US.

The deal will see Barentz combine its expertise with NKC’s knowledge of lanolin and lanolin derivatives for the personal care industry.

Lanolin and its related ingredients moisturize the skin, hair and nails. These ingredients act as lubricants on the skin surface, which gives the skin a soft, smooth appearance.

Expand portfolio

Hidde van der Wal, CEO Barentz tells CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com that it is this knowledge and it’s positioning as a market leader that makes NKC a good match for Barentz.

“This deal will expand our product portfolio and offers us opportunities in almost every market segment within personal care... Our main purpose is to bring these Lanolin products to all the 35 markets we’re active in in EMEA,” he says.

“Lanolin is a product that has been used for personal purposes since forever. So with the addition of lanolin and lanolin derivatives we will be leading the trend in safe, green, renewable and multifunctional ingredients.”

“This deal] enables us to use that leadership to our advantage and with an increased portfolio we can give our customers a better service and greater diversity of raw material to create the innovative formulations that they require.”

Growth

Likewise, NKC sees the partnership as a positive one having experienced rapid growth in Europe as well as in the USA.

“To continue to strengthen our operation and extend our activities we have been considering a strategic partnership and we are confident that Barentz is the right partner for us to continue to grow, because of Barentz’ ingredients expertise in combination with its wide network of customers within the personal care industry,” comments Ian Johnson, managing director of NKC Europe.

Barentz has taken an equity stake in both NKC Europe and in NKC USA. The integration of NKC into the Barentz structure will improve the availability of NKC products across EMEA.

The partnership with Barentz will also bring additional materials to the NKC portfolio. Both NKC operations in EMEA and USA will benefit from the sourcing, logistics, marketing, technical and financial resources of Barentz across the globe.

Barentz and NK Chemicals will present their combined ingredients portfolio at in-cosmetics in Paris from April 16th through April 18th.
