ModiFace, a leader when it comes to smart mirror technology, has announced the launch of a new software platform for universal use.

The new software works across most smart mirror manufacturers, the company claims, and provides a universal capability for beauty assessment and simulation.

The augmented reality software platform will offer the following features, according to ModiFace:

instantly provide clinical skin analysis, skin visualization, beauty product recommendation, and live makeup simulation for smart mirrors.

While smart mirror hardware has come in different configurations, sizes and variations, we believe there is a unique opportunity to make ModiFace's industry leading intelligent augmented reality technology the engine that will power most smart mirrors on the market,” the company says. It launched the software platform at the recent CES 2017 event.

How does it work?

In terms of the tech involved, ModiFace explains that the new mirror platform includes the following key features:

  • ModiFace's scientifically validated Skin AI skin analysis technology
  • A new lens distortion feature that compensates for lens misalignment and distortions that are common in most smart mirror cameras
  • Dynamic lighting technology which automatically provides the ideal lighting condition for every simulation
  • ModiFace's live video makeup and skin-care simulation technology, which currently powers visualization mirrors for more than 70 global beauty brands

Based on years of smart mirror development, the new software platform works with most smart mirror manufacturers and provides a universal capability for beauty assessment and simulation using ModiFace's patented technology,” the company states.

ModiFace notes that developing software rather than hardware will open up the wider industry to meet the potential posed by the smart technology, which allows consumers to try on makeup and offers diagnostic capabilities that respond to the demand for personalised beauty.

Charlotte Tilbury, NYX, Sephora and Credo are some of the brands already applying smart technology to the retail store space, as the retail tool’s popularity continues to grow.
